At the end of the day…
I don’t know how long you have been in the business world but in my short tenure of working, I have noticed some sayings that get thrown out there quite often. One that a colleague of mine pointed out was the overused and very abused saying of ‘At the end of the day…’
In the world of business, your life is a fickle, shortsighted, what-can-you-do-for-me-now situation. You could have been the top performer for many years straight, yet find yourself being yelled at for this quarters results. Businesses are about the bottom line. Did you make me profit? Did you lose me money? Sometimes you get one strike, other times you get five strikes. Either way, if you rub someone the wrong way, you’ll get fired. Do they care for you or your children? Nope.
Now, if you work in a business culture where this is not the case, you are in the minority and probably have a stellar owner/department manager. These businesses are usually smaller with less bureaucracy, less lawyers.
Back to the saying, ‘At the end of the day’ really means: when all the bologna, through all the crap, out of the ghetto, and when the dust settles, ______________________
Or it could mean: through all of the hoops, holes, and traps of bureaucracy, we have…
Now next time you’re in a meeting or a talk, listen out for this saying because at the end of the day, this life is what you have
